Javier: Sandra, ¿de dónde eres? ¿Cuántos años tienes?

Sandra: Nací en Málaga hace 23 años. 

J: ¿Cuál es tu formación?

S: Soy graduada en Traducción e Interpretación por la Universidad de Málaga. También hice un máster en Tradumática, Localización y Traducción Audiovisual en la Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio, en Madrid. Te estarás preguntado qué es eso. Por simplificarlo un poco, digamos que es informática aplicada a la traducción, traducción de páginas webs, videojuegos y diferentes tipos de productos audiovisuales.

J: ¿Por qué Traducción e Interpretación?

S: Por diferentes motivos. El principal es que siempre se me dieron bien los idiomas; dicen que la gente con ritmo y oído para la música tiene esa facilidad, casualmente el baile es otra de mis pasiones. El otro motivo es que me gusta lo que el proceso de traducir implica: es una actividad creativa en la que el traductor funciona como mediador intercultural. Me motiva el hecho de saber que estoy haciendo posible esa conexión. Aún recuerdo cuando mi profesor de latín me decía que le proponía traducciones muy buenas, que yo valía para esto. De ahí partió mi interés por esta profesión.

J: ¿Qué consideras importante en tu vida?

S: El amor recíproco en cualquiera de sus vertientes: el de alguien especial, el de los amigos y el de la familia. No sentir que estoy sola. Por otro lado, también es muy importante para mí la progresión personal y profesional: seguir aprendiendo continuamente, sentirme útil, no estancarme nunca…

J: Sandra, háblame de tus metas y de tus sueños.

S: Bueno, dicen que soy una persona muy polifacética y quizás sea verdad, porque mis metas y sueños son muchos y muy variopintos. Puede que mi meta principal sea disfrutar de mi trabajo, ocuparme de algo que me permita aplicar todos mis conocimientos. Me gustaría llegar a ser una buena traductora audiovisual o maquetadora.

J: ¿Tienes algún referente o alguien que te inspire?

S: He tenido la suerte de haber sido alumna de los mejores profesionales del sector, es difícil elegir; pero si tuviera que hacerlo, este sería Xosé Castro, traductor y presentador de radio y televisión.

J: ¿Cuál sería tu función como traductora audiovisual?

S: Muy resumidamente, llevaría a cabo la traducción y adaptación de los guiones para el doblaje y los subtítulos de películas, series… todo tipo de productos audiovisuales.

J: ¿Y tus sueños?

S: Mi sueño es ser actriz, de pequeña siempre aprovechaba cualquier oportunidad para subirme a un escenario; me encantaba. En realidad siempre quise estudiar arte dramático, pero no pudo ser; sin embargo, no es una idea que haya descartado. El año pasado, en Madrid, tuve la oportunidad de unirme a un estupendísimo grupo de teatro, fue una experiencia genial. Seguiré intentándolo.

J: Cuando hemos hablado de todo lo que consideras importante, me indicaste que, entre otras cosas, consideras importante el progreso personal. ¿Sientes que de algún modo está pasando?

S: No podemos huir de ese progreso, nos pasa a todos continuamente con todas las experiencias que nos han tocado vivir o que nos hemos buscado. Obviamente, algunas nos aceleran ese proceso más que otras. Para mí este último año ha sido muy intenso, me mudé a la capital, lejos del apoyo de mis padres y amigos de toda la vida, tuve mi primera experiencia laboral seria, conviví con ocho personas de distintos países,… Está claro que no puedo ser la misma.

J: Dime una frase que tenga un especial significado para ti.

Javier: Sandra, where are you from? How old are you?

Sandra: I was born in Málaga 23 years ago.

J: What have you studied?

S: I graduated in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Málaga. I also did a master's degree in Translation Technologies, Localization and Audiovisual Translation at the Alfonso X El Sabio University in Madrid. Maybe you're wondering what that is. To simplify it a little, let's say that it is the translation of web pages, video games and different types of audiovisual products.

J: Why Translation and Interpreting?

S: For different reasons. The main one is that I always have been good at languages; it is said that people with rhythm and good ear for music has that ability, by coincidence dancing is another one of my passions. The other reason is that I like what the process of translating means: it is a creative activity in which the translator works as an intercultural mediator. Knowing that I'm making possible this connection motivates me. I still remember when my Latin teacher told me that I proposed very good translations, that I was good at this. From there my interest in this profession began.

J: What do you consider important in your life?

S: Reciprocal love in any of its aspects: that of someone special, that of friends and that of the family. Not to feel that I am alone. On the other hand, it is also very important for me the personal and professional progression: to continue learning, feel useful, never become stagnant...

J: Sandra, tell me about your goals and your dreams.

S: Well, they say that I am a very multifaceted person and maybe it is true, because my goals and dreams are many and very diverse. My main goal may be to enjoy my work, to take on something that allows me to apply all my knowledge. I would like to become a good audiovisual translator or a desktop publisher.

J: Do you have a mentor or someone to inspire you?

S: I have been fortunate to have been a student of the best professionals in the sector, it is difficult to choose; but if I had to, he would be Xosé Castro, translator and radio and television presenter.

J: What would be your role as an audiovisual translator?

S: Very briefly, I would carry out the translation and adaptation of the scripts for the dubbing and the subtitles of films, series... all type of audiovisual products.

J: What about your dreams?

S: My dream is to be an actress, as a child I always used every opportunity to go on a stage; I loved it. Actually I always wanted to study dramatic arts, but it could not be; however, it is not an idea that I have rejected. Last year, in Madrid, I had the opportunity to join a great theater group, it was a great experience. I will keep trying.

J: When we talked about everything that you consider important, you indicated that, among other things, you consider personal progress important. Do you feel that somehow it is happening?

S: We cannot flee from this progress, it happens to us all continuously with all the experiences that we have had to live or that we have searched for. Obviously, some things accelerate that process more than others. For me this last year has been very intense, I moved to the capital, away from the support of my parents and lifelong friends, I had my first serious work experience, I lived with eight people from different countries... It is clear that I cannot be the same.

J: Tell me a phrase that has a special meaning for you.
